Website Security/SSL
What is SSL?
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client - a web server (website) and a browser, or a mail server and a mail client such as Microsoft Outlook.
Users of an HTTPS can be assured of:
- Authenticity
- Integrity
- Encryption
The definition from SSL.com:
"SSL is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browser remain private."
Will SSL Help my Site's SEO?
Although the primary purpose of SSL is securing information between the user and your website, there are also benefits for SEO. Google has publicly stated that if two websites which are equal in search results, one that has SSL enabled may receive a slightly higher ranking.
